Who is the competition for Aging in Place? All forms of service enriched senior housing. That includes ‘independent living’, congregant housing, Continuing Care Retirement Communities and the many forms of assisted living. What are the differences?
I am deeply engaged in Aging in Place, almost boringly focused on preparing homes in advance of health crises that otherwise force us out of our homes.
We often talk about Aging in Place as if it is synonymous with independence. Then some people, pointing out the need many older folks have for assistance, say it cannot work. Why the discrepancy? We must get a handle on what independence is to figure it out.
Two notes about pulling the trigger. That’s how I refer to the basic Aging in Place problem of getting people to plan, creating demand for service, especially in advance of need.
